The size of the cake required. How many guests you are planning to serve, and whether you want dessert-sized or take-home/coffee-sized serving?.

The number of tiers you'd like.

The shape you'd like - square, round, hexagon, or a novelty design etc

The flavour of the cake and fillings. What sort of icing you'd prefer?

Is there an overall theme for the day? This could revolve around colours; or flowers or foliage; or it could be a particular style, for example, romantic, country, contemporary/modern, or glamourous. From there we discuss invitation patterns, bridesmaids dresses, floral arrangements, cake toppers.

Is there something that is your 'signature' so to speak? Maybe you have a dog that goes everywhere with you, maybe one of you is a musician, or an athlete.
All this information forms the basis of your design, and the price of the finished cake. The price variance in wedding cakes is as vast as the Pacific Ocean. There is a 'base' price for each cake, and then the more work the higher the cost. Therefore bigger, more intricate cakes will cost extra, where as the smaller, plainer, simpler cakes will be more 'cost effective'.
I can offer quotes and design help over the phone, or via email. The best method though, is a face-to-face meeting. I have lots of cake magazines with lots of different wedding cakes and this can help narrow down exactly what you like (and dislike). The meeting is no obligation. Also, if you accept a quote and pay a deposit, the price is fixed.
